Be one of the first to trek through the Congo Rainforest searching for the Western Lowland Gorillas and much, much more! Editor’s note – Our Africa Department Manager, Kathy Schulz, was extremely honored to be selected by our Wilderness Safaris sales representative, Mr. Kim Nixon, to join him on the inaugural educational safari to the Republic of Congo last week.

In the early 1970’s, Frontiers’ owners Mike and Susie Fitzgerald helped pioneer the tourist trail to Mozambique as it became one of southern Africa’s top travel destinations. Sunshine, tropical climate and long golden stretches of palm-lined sand made Mozambique beaches a paradise. However, independence from Portugal in 1975 sparked a brutal and protracted civil war that reduced the stream of

Summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro “Wide as all the world, great, high, and unbelievably white in the sun,” wrote Ernest Hemingway in his famous short story, “The Snows of Kilimanjaro.” Few mountains offer the majesty and allure that Kilimanjaro does and the opportunity for novice climbers to ascend the highest peak in Africa since it is not considered a “technical climb.” For

I left Desroches today at around lunchtime but before doing so we went out and did an hour’s blue water fishing to see the fleet. Reflect on that, we did an hour’s blue water fishing. Yes, that means we started fishing within five minutes of leaving the beach. The blue water boat was able to back up to the beach,

The flight was uneventful and 35 minutes as described. All the luggage was weighed except hand luggage as it was a full flight but there were no issues.

With Air Seychelles ceasing to fly direct, the first question on my mind was how bad is the Emirates flight via Dubai? The timing is rather awkward and there is a gap between arrival in Mahe and leaving for Desroches or Alphonse. The departure time from Heathrow is pretty civilised at 1:35 p.m. but sleep does not come easily but

We stopped at a crafts emporium called Utamaduni that had at least two dozen vendors with everything from African furniture and “objets d’art” to the beaded

We visited a local Maasai village called Enkerari, where Friends of Conservation (the A&K sponsored philanthropy group) has several projects going on. We were given a “royal Maasai welcome” which included a special blessing and much singing and dancing. Of course, I had to jump in! FOC has built a bio-gas system to produce power for eight of the village
