Regent Mariner Voyage Continues

Frontiers’ Jill Jergel’s Regent cruise aboard the Seven Seas Mariner continues; here are some excerpts from her Mediterranean journal: Friday, November 1, 2012 High heels were the wrong choice of footwear last night!  As the Adriatic Sea flexed its muscles, it was hard enough to walk in a straight line, let alone do so in my trusty black spikes. The rocking

Cruise aboard the Regent Mariner

Editor’s Notes: Our Destination Specialist, Jill Jergel, is currently sailing aboard the Regent Mariner through Venice, Urbino (Italy), Dubrovnik (Croatia), Kotor (Montenegro), Corfu (Greece), Sicily, Capri, Rome, Florence (Italy), and Monte Carlo (Monaco). While Hurricane Sandy cancelled flights all along the East Coast, my roommate of 30 years, Tim Jergel, and I safely arrived into Venice to start our eagerly

Frontiers clients, the Foster family, traveled to Italy for a little family fun. Before they departed from Florence, they were met by our on-site, who snapped this photograph for us. We’re thrilled they had a lovely time and enjoyed the drivers and guides!

Family Travel in Italy

Farewell Sicily

Of course, as fate would have it, the most beautiful day of the trip was the last day and it was a day slated for an all-day Advisory Board Meeting. The sky was a brilliant blue, absolutely cloudless and considerably warmer. So this is what was drawing scores of tourists to this rugged island in mid-October! I’m told that the

Orient-Express & Palazzo Biscari

Our welcome dinner at the Hotel Grand Timeo, hosted by my long-time friend and General Manager, Luca Finardi, was a festive and delicious evening! Orient Express’ signature cocktail, Bellinis, were passed, and one of my favorite Italian specialties, deep fried zucchini flowers (among many other goodies!). The candle-lit room positively glowed and a harpist and cellist playing lovely music in

Sicily & the lovely Grand Hotel Timeo

Arrived about an hour late into Catania Airport—a flight of about 3 hours from London. We landed in an absolute gale—wind gusts of 40+ mph and very happy to be on “terra firma!” The priority tags on the bags seemed to have the opposite effect and took forever to come—to the point that I was filling out lost luggage forms

Follow Mollie Fitzgerald’s Travel Blog this Week in London and Sicily

Mollie will be in London for two days, October 6-8, staying at the “Gorgeous Goring Hotel,” a long time Frontiers favorite—and we understand it’s looking better than ever after its renovation for the Middleton Family takeover during the Royal Wedding earlier this year. From there, it’s a non-stop flight to Catania on the island of Sicily where she’ll spend the

St. Tropez, France

At one time, St. Tropez was a 15th Century military stronghold. After World War II, the town became an internationally-known seaside resort area. Located in the heart of the French Riviera, the town today has wonderful inns, boutiques and cafes… not to mention a harbor full of mega yachts! Our time was limited in this lovely area as we were

Monte Carlo & Eza

Today we were anchored in Monte Carlo. Thankfully, the nice weather returned. Famous for its casino, high-end shops and fine dining, this town exudes a lavish lifestyle. Ships are measured in meters–not feet–and even the taxis are fine automobiles! Rather than spending a significant amount of time in the hustle and bustle of Monte Carlo, we decided to drive along

Florence, Italy

This morning we docked in Livorno where we were met by our driver, Santi, who transferred us to Florence, about 1 hour, 15 minutes from the port. Often considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Florence is the birthplace of the Renaissance Period and visitors encounter treasures by da Vinci, Michelangelo, Dante and Boccaccio… to name a
