Golf on the Emerald Isle: Arrival in Northern Ireland

Editors Notes: Mike Fitzgerald, Jr. is leading a group of Frontiers clients on a golf journey through Ireland for the fifth time in 15 years. This year they are stepping foot on greens they have not golfed on prior trips. . . be sure to stay tuned!

Frontiers loves Ireland . . . the scenery is beautiful and the locals are welcoming to Americans’ visit.  We also feel the links courses here are as good (and in some cases better) than what can be found across the channel in Scotland.  This is my fifth trip to Ireland with this group over the last 15 years and we are thrilled to be back.

For the first part of the trip, we are staying in Portrush, Northern Ireland, which is a resort village on the north coast with great beaches that is also home to the Royal Portrush Golf Club, a Frontiers favorite!  Portrush is about a 2 ½ hour drive from the Dublin Airport and centrally located to other courses within driving distance.

Yesterday, we played our first round at Ballyliffin Golf Club, a course we haven’t played in prior visits.  With the forecast calling for rain and wind all day, the skies cleared on the first tee and we had a delightful round on the Glashedy Links, their premier course.

Today we are off to The Championship Course at Royal Portrush; it will be a treat!
