Brilliant Ballyfin!

We recently featured this wonderful Irish property in our Elegant Journeys Latitudes magazine. Based on the wonderful reports from returning clients over the last couple of years, we jumped at the opportunity to visit Ballyfin on our arrival into Ireland.

Set at the foot of the Slieve Bloom Mountains in the center of Ireland, Ballyfin is a wonderfully restored country house on an exquisite estate featuring tranquility and great natural beauty. It’s just an hour’s drive from the Dublin Airport, making it an ideal hideaway to relax for a couple of days after the long international flight. Since most of the USA flights depart Dublin around midday, Ballyfin is also a great place to end your Irish holiday!

The house has long been admired as the most lavish Regency mansion in Ireland, and after eight years of restoration, Ballyfin re-opened in May 2011 as a 5 star country house hotel like no other. It offers the very best of Irish hospitality in the most beautiful surroundings imaginable. With just 15 bedrooms on a 600-acre estate, it is also the ideal place to take over for a very special celebration.

Activities include spa treatments, hiking, fishing, cycling, clay bird shooting, archery, tennis and other outdoor pursuits. The culinary team at the estate prepared remarkable dishes. The dinner tasting menu with wine pairings was exceptional!

We were accommodated in The Butler Room with its dramatic red wallpaper. Originally the bedchamber of Lady Caroline Coote’s private suite, this beautifully appointed room is in the front of the house overlooking the lake. Although all of the furnishings are not original to the house, the owners have tastefully decorated in period Georgian style. Be sure to also take the thorough tour of the country house. It is conducted daily at 4pm and gives guests a complete history of the estate, an account of how many of the architectural elements were acquired, an extensive description of the restoration process and a view into the family artwork on display throughout the property.

Welcome to Ireland. Welcome to Ballyfin. This property is a must visit for our clients.
