Careening along the scenic intra-coastal road on a 10-speed was the start of an exhilarating getaway at the Four Seasons in Palm Beach Florida (complimentary bikes for guests). In addition, the water sport options are endless, but I opted for a Catamaran sail on the beautiful waterways. The hotel packed a delicious boxed lunch of lobster roll, quinoa salad, and lemon bars.
Experiences abound in Palm Beach that cover most any tastes and interests. My affinity towards exploration of historical homes and museums of area uniqueness were satisfied by a visit to the Henry Flagler Mansion called Whitehall, now known as the Flagler Museum. The Golden era of Florida’s wealthiest residents reign, this mansion personified opulent style. There are more than 70 rooms, and a Grand Hall, along with changing exhibits. I also managed to squeeze in two hours of shopping exploration at the European Style “Worth Avenue” in Palm Beach main square. Window displays of Gucci, Cartier, and other exquisite boutiques, with their festive windows of pink striped elephants and brightly colored trolls, make window shopping its own event. Don’t forget to explore the little side alleys, and you’ll see beautiful water garden displays and more tiny shops and bistros.
Soaking your body and your senses as well, is an easy activity here at the Four Seasons with their enviable ocean front beach area (they have an adult only as well as a family section), the luxurious oasis pool, and spa experiences rival any great European hotel. A nice touch at the pool is the chilled lemongrass scented facial towels, and the containers of sun lotion and aloe vera readily available and complimentary to the guests. Fitness activities are plentiful; and I endeavored to do the cycling strength class and the restorative yoga session on the beach.
My first day ended with a superb dining experience at Jove’ Restaurant. Gulf Mahi Mahi and Tuna Tartare with avocado certainly satisfied what I like to think, is my very discriminating palate. Everyone said the Key lime pie is their specialty, so I tried this, and I found the presentation to be quite charming; it was served layered in a mason jar with a long handled spoon!
Too often we think of Florida in a large sense that includes grand amusement parks and high flying activities; however, a visit to Four Seasons Palm Beach offers the chance to revel in simple, but elegant pleasures both on a grand scale that replicate a bygone era, yet excel in modern amenities. The personalized service and attention you receive from the moment they open the door for you, continues throughout your stay. Palm Beach itself typifies the noblest of communities with regal status, and the Four Seasons carries this theme throughout the resort.
