The Chatwal Hotel, New York City

I recently found myself apartment hunting in New York City with my daughter and was looking for a hotel uniquely positioned to canvas both the Upper East Side and the trendy downtown neighborhoods. Industry colleagues suggested The Chatwal, a five star, 76-room boutique property located in the heart of Manhattan’s Theater District on West 44th Street.  It is a historic landmark building designed by Stanford White providing an idyllic sanctuary from the urban chaos of the city. The hotel’s décor was reinvented by Thierry Despont and exudes a sophisticated sense of style.

I stayed in Suite #709 which was very cozy and featured a HUGE outdoor terrace – the biggest I have seen in NYC – attractively furnished with flowering plants, patio furniture complete with chaise lounge and umbrella.   I warned my daughter that our terrace was probably bigger than any of the apartments we’d be looking at!  There was an eclectic area of books in the room – titles that actually interested me, like “To India With Love,” – and made the room feel very home-like. Geoffrey Zakarian room service was impressively quick and I’m happy to say that The Chatwal serves the finest breakfast sausages I’ve ever had…I indulged each of the mornings I was in residence.

This is my new favorite recommendation for theater-goers; you could not be more conveniently located!! Best of all, avoid the needle-in-haystack-hassle of trying to find a taxi when the theaters all let out. Remember that Frontiers has a fantastic resource for securing tickets to the best shows on Broadway (including the highly coveted “Hamilton,” which is just as awesome as it’s reputed to be!).  It is also perfect for anyone seeking a mid-town venue or for those, like me, who treasure a private outdoor space in a hotel!  It is a Virtuoso property; so Frontiers can add value with continental breakfast included, space available upgrade and $100 credit at their Elizabeth Arden spa. Coincidence or providence, is it any wonder that my daughter found her new abode also on 44th Street!?
